At least 29 people were killed in the incident, and several injured, local media reported, citing national emergency services. Rescue operations are reportedly underway at the site of the incident.
According to the News18 media outlet, the bus driver lost control of the passenger vehicle before ramming into a highway railing and falling into a canal.

Regional authorities have reportedly expressed condolences to family members of the deceased and local emergency services have been deployed to provide medical attention to the injured.

According to media reports, the regional bus operator has vowed to pay compensation to the relatives of those killed in the incident.
Local police said on Twitter that at least 20 passengers were safely extracted from the overturned bus as the rescue operation reportedly remains underway.
One Sleeper Coach passenger bus travelling from Lucknow to Delhi met with an accident on Yamuna Expressway. It fell into the side fall about 15 feet deep.

Local police said later on Monday, that over a dozen of passengers were transported to a local hospital in a critical condition.
According to AP, India has the world's deadliest roads, with about 150,000 killed and 470,000 injured annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
