A cat that was detained at Sri Lanka's main prison on 1 August while it was allegedly trying to smuggle drugs and cell phone SIM cards has escaped, the newspaper Aruna reported.
The animal was earlier found by jail intelligence officials at the high-security Welikada Prison, according to the report, citing a police official.
He said that the cat had nearly two grams of heroin, two SIM cards, and a memory chip in a small plastic bag tied around its neck. However, the tricky feline escaped from the jail room he was being kept in on 2 August, the report said.
The prison authorities haven't yet commented on the matter.
Last week, police seized an eagle that was reportedly used by drug traffickers to distribute illegal substances in a suburb of Colombo.
