The planes flew over the Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Norwegian Sea, Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, along the Northern Sea Route, and over the neutral waters of the Pacific Ocean, according to the admiral.
The Russian planes were escorted by NATO fighter jets during their flights, he added.
For several weeks now, the Russian Defence Ministry's National Defence Control Centre has been recording almost daily flights of US reconnaissance aircraft approaching Russia’s borders in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.
In the meantime, the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) reported on 28 August that US fighter jets had intercepted six Russian military aircraft near the state of Alaska. According to the report, the Russian aircraft remained in international airspace at all times and did not enter US or Canadian airspace.
