The EMSC detailed in an initial report that the late-night earthquake in the Dead Sea region was measured to have a magnitude of 4.1 at a depth of approximately two kilometers. The event's epicenter occurred some 32 kilometers (20 miles) west of Irbid, Jordan, and just 14 kilometers (9 miles) north of Bet She'an, Israel, the international group announced. As of this article's publication, no major damage has been reported to infrastructure within the affected areas. The low-magnitude earthquake was briefly captured in social media footage allegedly recorded in Israel. One witness in Tirat Carmel, some 49 kilometers (30 miles) from the event's epicenter, said that they were unable to feel the earthquake on the 14th floor of a building, "but everyone around [T]irat Carmel are reporting they felt it." A majority of witnesses reported that the seismic event was weak, translating to 'MMIII' or less on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale.
