NATO Fighter Jets Escorted 10 Tu-142 Planes During Flights in Offshore Maritime Zone, MoD Says

10 TU-142 anti-submarine warfare aircraft have made planned flights to the offshore maritime zone, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov said in a statement.

The planes flew over the Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Norwegian Sea, Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, along the Northern Sea Route, and over the neutral waters of the Pacific Ocean, according to the admiral.

The Russian planes were escorted by NATO fighter jets during their flights, he added.

For several weeks now, the Russian Defence Ministry's National Defence Control Centre has been recording almost daily flights of US reconnaissance aircraft approaching Russia’s borders in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.

Earlier today, two Su-27 fighters were scrambled to intercept a US Air Force B-52H strategic bomber over the Baltic Sea.

In the meantime, the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) reported on 28 August that US fighter jets had intercepted six Russian military aircraft near the state of Alaska. According to the report, the Russian aircraft remained in international airspace at all times and did not enter US or Canadian airspace.
