Queues Form at Brenner Pass as Drivers Head to Germany Amid COVID-19 Border Restrictions

On 11 February, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said that the country may introduce full-time control measures at its borders with Austria and the Czech Republic over the spread of new strains of COVID-19 there.

Live from the Brenner Pass as long queues of trucks form on Italy's A22 highway as drivers heading from Italy to Germany need to present a negative COVID-19 test while crossing the border with Austria.

On Monday, 40 km queues to cross were recorded. More than 800 trucks were stuck from the night before ​and were subject to checks on the Italian-Austrian border.

Earlier, the German government had extended the coronavirus-related lockdown until 7 March.
