More Than 15 People Feared Missing After Ship Sinks off Liberian Shore

According to officials, the ship began to sink at night on 17-18 July. Search and rescue operations are underway.

Over 15 passengers are missing after a vessel sank off the coast of southeastern Liberia, the country's coast guard reported on 18 July. Liberian media previously reported that 21 people were aboard the vessel. 
Following the incident, a coastguard official held a press conference in the Liberian capital Monrovia and stated that the shipwreck had occurred at night on 17-18 July. Coastguard are now searching for survivors, he added.
The coastguard official noted that some people had been rescued at night on 17-18 July while the ship was sinking.
The vessel had earlier been placed under detention orders as it was unseaworthy, the head of Liberia's Maritime Authority Eugene Lenn Nagbe told reporters.
