Pakistan’s Engro multi-industry corporation announced its Vice Chairman Shahzada Dawood and his son are on board the missing submersible.
"On Sunday, June 18, Mr Shahzada Dawood, Vice Chairman of Engro Corporation Limited, along with his son, Suleman, embarked on a journey to visit the remnants of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean. All that we know so far is that contact was lost with their submersible craft. There is limited information available beyond this that we know, and we humbly request that speculation and theorization is avoided," the company said in a statement.
The Dawood family is one of Pakistan’s richest families, the Sky News reported. It has a diversified investment portfolio, including stakes in agriculture, industry and healthcare.
On Sunday, the submarine of the OceanGate Expeditions company went missing during an expedition to the Titanic wreckage in an area about 900 miles east of Cape Cod in the North Atlantic, at a depth of approximately 13,000 feet. The submarine has a capacity for five people and oxygen supply that can last for 96 hours. Hamish Harding, a billionaire and adventure traveler, is reportedly on board. Since Monday morning, the search and rescue operation is underway.
