A businesswoman has been gunned down in north Moscow in what police say has the hallmarks of a contract killing.
Yelena Melnikova, the 50-year-old general director of the Lyuks-Versiya breakfast cereals company, was shot dead on Wednesday evening near her home by an unknown gunman.
She was killed by a single gunshot to the head next to the entranceway to her apartment block, a police spokesperson said.
“Preliminary information suggests this was a contract killing, although it has not been ruled out that she was killed as the result of a robbery,” he added.
Her body was discovered by her 20-year-old son.
