After the vote Kenny resigned, but will remain in a caretaker position until a new government is formed. According to The Guardian, negotiations to beak the political deadlock could continue until Easter (March 27).
Kenny’s Fine Gael conservative party lost the majority during the February 26 elections.
However, the nomination for prime minister of Micheal Martin, the leader of Fine Gael’s main rival, another major center-right party Fianna Fail, was also defeated on Thursday.
The two parties are ruling out creating a coalition.
