Number of EU Migrants Working in Britain Hits Record High
11:41 GMT 18.05.2016 (Updated: 15:26 GMT 28.05.2023) The number of European migrants working in the United Kingdom has risen by 10 percent this year, reaching 2.15 million, according to a report published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The majority of the 224,000 EU migrants who gained employment in Britain in the year ending March 2016 are from France, Italy and Spain.
Labor migration from outside of the European Union remained mostly unchanged.
The new data will undoubtedly be used by the rival camps in the upcoming EU referendum, as it is often claimed European migration is a drain on the UK budget.
