The parliament of the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa adopted a resolution protesting the United States and urging Japan’s central government to stop flights of US MV-22 Osprey aircraft after a deadly crash of the heli-plane in Australia, local media reported Monday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — On August 5, a US Marine Corps Osprey went down near Australia. Three US Marines have been declared dead following extensive search and rescue efforts after the crash.

"The indignation at the disdainful attitude of the US military, which ignored the voice of the prefecture’s people, could not be restrained," the parliament's resolution, as quoted by the Kyodo news agency.

The local parliament urged Tokyo to fully prohibit the deployment of Osprey aircraft at the US military base of Futenma, located in the prefecture, and suspend the use of the US base until February, 2019.

The number of accidents with the US heli-plane in Okinawa and in Australia lead to the "growth of mistrust between the government of the United States and Japan," the parliament said, according to the agency.

The resolution was sent to the US military command in the prefecture and to the US Consulate General as well as to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera, the agency reported.

US military presence in the Okinawa Prefecture, which is located on a tiny island in the south of the Japanese archipelago and hosts the vast majority of the country's total US military presence, has been a source for local residents.

In recent years, Osprey aircraft have been involved in a number of accidents resulting in deaths or injures.

In February, the Okinawa branch of the Naha District Court ordered the Japanese government to pay compensation to local residents for the loud noise from Ospreys. Plaintiffs specifically sought compensation for disruptions caused by Ospreys, which, according to them, interfered with the daily life and caused harm to their mental health. At the same time, the court rejected the plaintiffs' demand to ban flights of Osprey aircraft in the area.
