More than 100 people have been killed in a fire in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, a city official said on Friday.
"The death toll rose to 109 from the devastating fire." Dhaka's Deputy Commissioner Md. Mohibul Haque was quoted as telling Xinhua.
Some 100 people have also been taken to hospital with severe burns and the death toll is expected to rise.
The massive blaze broke out on Thursday evening in a densely populated area of the city after an electrical transformer exploded.
Most of the dead were killed by smoke inhalation as the fire devastated homes and shops.
The fire is now under control and an investigation into the blaze has been launched.
This is the second disaster to hit the city this week after a five-story building collapsed on Tuesday, killing 25 people.
