MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation on Wednesday where they discussed the situation in the Middle East and bilateral relations, the Kremlin’s press service said.
“A telephone conversation was held on the initiative of the Israeli side between Russian President V.V. Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” the press service said.
During the conversation, the two leaders discussed the Middle East and reached agreement to hold a number of high-level contact meetings.
“Agreement was reached on holding a range of contact [meetings] on the high and highest levels, taking into consideration the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries,” the Kremlin press service said.
Israel and Russia also agreed to set up a mechanism to coordinate military actions in order to avoid conflicts over Syria where Russia has been conducting aerial anti-terrorist operation requested by the Syrian government. According to Netanyahu, the Israeli Air Force carries out military operations in Syria "from time to time to prevent the emergence of a new front that Iran is trying to create" against Israel in the Golan Heights.
On November 30, Putin and Netanyahu held a meeting in Paris where they agreed to deepen military cooperation and continue work to deconflict activities in the Syrian airspace.
