Washington seems to be at a dead-set trying to find new ways to exert pressure on Russia. The US is considering several possible scenarios for the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, but there is almost no one left to impose them on, Bloomberg wrote.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Director of the Institute for US and Canada Studies Valery Garbuzov confirmed this opinion saying that, "in principle, all possible sanctions have already been introduced."

"The US has already reached its limit regarding the sanctions. The only thing it can do is to further expand the list of sanctioned companies and persons against whom the sanctions are imposed," the expert stated.

Garbuzov noted that the sanctions have had negative effect on the Russian, European and even US economies.

"The impact of sanctions is very limited and sooner or later the United States will understand it, as it happened in case of Cuba," the expert said.

According to Garbuzov, at some point Washington realized that its strategy of pressuring Cuba was unsuccessful because "the political regime there had not changed, but on the contrary, the sanctions contributed to the consolidation of the nation around its leader." The expert also believes that the US will soon return to this type of "soft power."

"Of course, sooner or later we will see the erosion of the sanctions strategy, and, most likely, it will start in Europe, because Europe doesn't need these sanctions, and then it will spread to the United States as well," the expert believes.

His point of view is supported by Lutz Kleinwächter, chairman of the board at the political journal WeltTrends. According to him, Western sanctions against Russia are an obstacle to West-Moscow cooperation and therefore should be abolished.

"These sanctions were imposed following the events in Ukraine, and there are very serious disputes within the European countries around these sanctions, in particular within Germany and between the European states and the USA. These sanctions do not lead us to the resolution of the problems, they are an obstacle to cooperation, and thus must be abolished," Kleinwächter said during a teleconference Berlin-Moscow, organized by MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

Russia's relations with the West deteriorated sharply after Crimea rejoined Russia in 2014 and the West accused Moscow of meddling in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, imposing several rounds of sanctions against Russia. In response, Russia imposed embargo on the imports of food products from the countries that have imposed sanctions against it.
