MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has criticized the US presidential elections, stating that statements made by Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump during the campaign exemplify the lack of human values in the United States, in a speech on Wednesday.
"These two candidates show the whole catastrophic reality in the United States, which goes beyond what we were saying. However, some did not believe and did not want to believe, but now their statements during the debates are proof of the absence of human values in the United States," Khamenei said, as cited by IRINN channel

The Supreme Leader was speaking at an event to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the storming of the US embassy in Tehran by radical students in 1979. The students disarmed the guards and took more than 50 staff hostage for 444 days leading to a lasting rupture in diplomatic relations.
The US presidential elections will take place on November 8.
