MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin has signed a law requiring Russian banks to have a minimum equity capital of 5 million euros, the Kremlin press office said Thursday.
Russia's monetary authorities are seeking higher minimum capital requirements for banks to improve their lending ability.
The amendments signed by the president involve the federal laws governing banks and banking activity and the Central Bank, the press office said.
The amendments set the minimum capital requirement of 5 million euros in ruble equivalent for banks and 500,000 euros for non-banking credit institutions.
