A Russian first deputy prime minister said Russia will not export uranium enrichment centrifuges to Iran.
KOVROV (Central Russia), April 20 (RIA Novosti) -- A Russian first deputy prime minister said Russia will not export uranium enrichment centrifuges to Iran.

"Iran is out of the question," Sergei Ivanov said when asked whether the exporter of Russian centrifuges, already working with China, was looking at Iran for more business opportunities.

Exporting centrifuges to China is completely in line with Russia's international obligations, he said, citing Beijing's nuclear status.

Russia will never transfer its uranium enrichment technology to anyone, he said.

"Russia has long abided by its non-proliferation commitments. These [centrifuges] are subject to export control. This technology will never be transferred anywhere," he said.

Russian centrifuges are produced by four Techsnabexport state-controlled plants in the cities of Yekaterinburg, Angarsk, Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk.

Iran's Vice President Gholamreza Agazade said April 17 Iran was installing new centrifuges at its Natanz enrichment facility to support its controversial nuclear program but claimed the centrifuges were locally made.

There were media reports that Urenco, a U.K.-based European enrichment technology and uranium fuel producer, had supplied centrifuges to Iran via Pakistan.
