MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's industrial production grew by 7.4% between January and May 2007, a deputy prime minister said Monday.
"Industrial output has been growing steadily since the start of the year," Alexander Zhukov told a Cabinet meeting.
Citing figures from a Federal Statistics Service report, he said that in May, the growth rate had increased 6.7% year-on-year, and by 0.9% month-on-month.
Zhukov said it was due primarily to manufacturing industries, which posted an 11.9% growth over the period, while the mining sector's output increased by a mere 3.4%.
Car output increased 11.5% year-on-year in January-May while the amount of household appliances manufactured in the period jumped 167% on last year's figure.
Zhukov said the cited statistics provide sufficient basis to expect Russia's steady industrial growth will persist.
