President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Russians on Easter and said Christians should join hands to harmonize relations between different faiths.
"I heartily congratulate Orthodox Christians, all Russian citizens who celebrate the Resurrection of Christ," the president, who had attended the Easter liturgy in downtown Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral, said.
"Easter festivities occupy a special place in the spiritual life of Russian society. They bring moral renovation, fill people's hearts with warmth and light, and strengthen the belief in the good and justice," Medvedev said.
The Russian Orthodox Church contributes to the strengthening of spiritual and historical traditions of the Russian people, as well as to maintaining peace in the country, he said.
"It is symbolic that this year, followers of all Christian churches celebrate Easter together. I am confident that their fruitful cooperation for the sake of peace and mutual understanding between people will contribute to the harmonization of interethnic and interfaith relations, and help maintain the cultural diversity of Russia," the president said.
He wished Russians "health, well-being, and all the best."
