Police are investigating the circumstances of the death of fugitive Russian businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin's mother in Moscow, a police source said on Sunday.
Chichvarkin, the former CEO of cell phone retailer Euroset, is wanted in Russia on suspicion of involvement in the 2003 abduction of Euroset's shipping agent, who allegedly stole large quantities of mobile phones. Chichvarkin has been residing in Great Britain for almost a year.
The body of Chichavrkin's mother was found in her apartment in Leninsky prospect in west Moscow by a housemaid on Saturday, the police source said.
According to preliminary forensic studies, 60-year-old Lyudmila Chichvarkin fell down, hitting her head on the corner of the table.
"The woman suffered from hypertension. She could have lost consciousness and fallen down, receiving such an injury," the police source said.
In December 2009, London's Westminster Magistrates' Court adjourned hearings into Russia's extradition request for Chichvarkin until August 2, 2010.
