Dmitry Medvedev drove a car through Moscow for the first time as president on Friday.
After a visit to a Moscow education center, Medvedev sat behind the wheel of a Mercedes SUV, fastened his safety belt and, accompanied by cars containing bodyguards, headed to his Moscow Region residence.
The presidential entourage told RIA Novosti that Medvedev had not driven a car around Moscow since he became Russia's president in May 2008. However, he had earlier driven a car outside the Russian capital.
In the southern Russian resort of Sochi, Medvedev was spotted driving a Mercedes ML in August 2009 after a Russia-Argentina soccer match.
On April 5 this year, the Russian president gave a ride to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who came to Russia on an unofficial visit. Medvedev drove Yanukovych around the Moscow Region residence of Gorki inside a 1948-made rarity Pobeda car.
