Two militants and the head of the local administration were killed on Sunday during a special operation carried out by Russian security forces in the southern republic of Dagestan, local police said.
"During a raid in the village of Komsomolskoye two militants were killed. The head of local administration was also killed. The special operation is continuing," the duty officer in the Kizilyurt District said.
He did not identify the dead militants and was unable to say if there were any other militants inside the house.
An antiterrorism official said earlier that Shahban Aliyev, wanted as a member of a militant group, was inside the building.
Clashes between security forces and armed groups are common in Russia's North Caucasus republics, in particular Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, where police and government officials are often targeted by militants.
Earlier in the day in Dagestan's capital, Makhachkala, at least eight militants were killed in a counterterrorist operation.
Also on Sunday in Makhachkala, the head of an international department for the fight against extremism in Russia's North Caucasus Federal District was shot dead as he drove to work.
