Russian opposition figurehead, Sergei Udaltsov, who was hospitalized on Sunday, has announced that he is ending his hunger strike.
“Since yesterday I started to receive some help to end the strike... Doctors said that from now on they would not be in charge, some organs may fail, the kidneys, there could be a problem with the heart. So I think that at this stage it is advisable to end the hunger strike,” Udaltsov said, noting that his condition is still weak.
Udaltsov, the coordinator of the opposition Left Front movement, was detained on May 9 when he tried to take part in opposition demonstrations in downtown Moscow. He was charged with defying police orders and sentenced to 15 days in detention. Later he started a "dry" hunger strike.
