MOSCOW, February 5 (RIA Novosti) – This year's first space launch from the Baikonur space port has been postponed until Wednesday due to bad weather, the Federal Space Agency Roscosmos said on Tuesday.

The launch of a Russian carrier rocket Soyuz-2.1a with six Globalstar-2 communication satellites was previously scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Moscow time (4:20 p.m. GMT).

According to Roscosmos, the launch was postponed because of strong winds at the altitude of eight to 10 kilometers.

Globalstar low-orbit communication satellites are used for providing mobile satellite communication services.

The first six second-generation satellites were orbited in October 2010. Another 12 were put into orbit in 2011 and 2012.
