Russia's first and only Formula One driver, Vitaly Petrov, scored his first championship points on Sunday with a seventh-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, won by Jensen Button.
The Renault driver has had a tough start to his Formula One career, failing to finish each of his first three races - twice due to technical problems - but in Shanghai he finished ahead of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who was 10th in his Mercedes.
The McClarens of Button and Lewis Hamilton finished one-two, while Schumacher's teammate Nico Rosberg was third. Robert Kubica was fifth in the other Renault.
Petrov lay 10th with 10 laps to go, but went past Jaime Algersauri, Schumacher and then Mark Webber in the closing stages for his seventh-place finish and six championship points.
The next race is in Barcelona on May 9.
