A delegation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) arrived in Russia's Black Sea resort city of Sochi on Monday to inspect the country's preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
This is the fifth visit to Sochi of the IOC Coordination Committee led by three-time Olympic Champion Jean-Claude Killy with the previous inspection carried out last October.
"The Commission will be in the Black Sea resort for the next three days, and will combine technical meetings with visits to some of the venue sites, in order to see the progress being made for the Games," the IOC said on its website.
The mountain resort of Krasnaya Polyana, which will be the venue of all of the snow and sliding disciplines in 2014, has already proved to be a success after it hosted its first international Alpine skiing events with the FIS Europa Cup for men and women last month.
More than 200 sports facilities and pieces of infrastructure are to be built in Sochi for the 2014 Winter Games. The cost of building the facilities and infrastructure is estimated at more than $30 billion.
Sochi won the right to host the Olympics at an IOC session in Guatemala in July 2007 after a close race with South Korea's Pyeongchang and Austria's Salzburg.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, a noted sports fan and participant, was the driving force behind Russia's successful bid.
