Sweden on Thursday won gold, defeating Russia 1-0 in the world junior hockey championship final’s overtime.

Mika Zibanejad shot the only goal into the Russian net in the 71st minute of the game, making advantage of Russian defenders’ mistake.

A year ago, Russia beat Canada 5-3 to win the 2011 IIHF world junior championship in the United States.

The 2013 championship will be held in Ufa, the capital of the Russian republic of Bashkortostan in the Volga Federal District.

Earlier Canada beat Finland 4-0 in the 2012 world juniors to take bronze.
