Russia’s Maria Sharapova on Thursday defeated Israel’s Shahar Peer 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, advancing to the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open.
The match in Key Biscayne, Florida, lasted two hours and 24 minutes.
No.2-seeded Sharapova will next play the winner of a later Miami Masters match between Italy’s Sara Errani and American Sloane Stephens.
Australia’s Samantha Stosur, the world’s No.6, beat Russia’s Valeria Savinykh 6-4, 6-0.
