Two goals in three minutes from Luis Caballero was not enough for Krylya Sovetov to take all three points on Monday as the hosts drew 2-2 with FC Krasnodar in driving rain.

The draw lifts Krasnodar to ninth in the Russian Premier League, level on points with 10th-placed Amkar Perm and Krylya in 11th.

Krasnodar’s Armenian-American striker Yura Movsisyan hit his ninth goal of the season on 25 minutes with a low shot inside the near post that continued his run as the league’s top scorer this season.

Ten minutes later, Caballero struck with a first-time shot from left-back Bruno Teles’ cross, beating Krasnodar keeper Andrei Sinitsyn, who had wandered off his goal-line.

The second goal in Caballero’s brace came when he headed in a cross from Teles.

Krasnodar equalized at the start of the second half when Brazilian midfielder Wanderson, who came as a substitute, scored with a shot from the edge of the box for his second goal in two appearances for the team since Krasnodar loaned him from Swedish side GAIS.

“I think that judging by the game and the chances we had, we lost two points. We created a lot of chances, possessed the ball well, but conceded stupid goals,” Krasnodar’s coach Slavoljub Muslin said in televised comments.

Movsisyan could have opened the scoring on 10 minutes, but hit the ball over the bar from a tight angle.

Soon afterwards, Caballero missed a good when he shot poorly, allowing Sinitsyn to save.

Vanderson could have won the game for Krasnodar 78 minutes but he missed the net from an excellent position in front of goal.

In stoppage time, Krylya goalkeeper Sergei Veremko salvaged a draw for his team with an athletic save from Nikola Drincic’s free-kick.

Later Monday, Mordovia Saransk host Alania Vladikavkaz in a battle between the two newly promoted sides.

In Sunday’s games, Samuel Eto’o and Lacina Traore fired Anzhi to the top of the league in a 2-1 home win over FC Volga, taking advantage of championship rivals CSKA Moscow’s earlier 2-0 derby defeat to Dynamo Moscow.

Sunday’s other match saw Venezuelan striker Jose Salomon Rondon score twice as Rubin Kazan dismantled ten-man FC Rostov in a 4-0 away thrashing.

On Saturday, Spartak Moscow snatched a comeback 3-1 win at Amkar Perm, while late stunning goal by Armenian winger Aras Ozbiliz secured a 2-1 home victory for FC Kuban against Terek Grozny.

Zenit St. Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow drew 1-1 Saturday in a bad-tempered game that saw both sides lose a player to a red card.
