The day before, health officials reported that the coronavirus death toll in English hospitals rose over the past 24 hours by 823 to a total of 8,937.

According to the NHS, 657 more people in England have died of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

At the same time, the UK Health Ministry has confirmed that a total number of fatal cases has surpassed 10,000 and now stands at 10,612. 

Earlier in the day, the prime minister's office said that Boris Johnson had been discharged from a London hospital as he continues to recover from coronavirus.

Globally, as of Sunday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases nearly reached 1.7 million, while the death toll surpassed 100,000.
