The US government has ordered that more than 50 reports on problems or deficiencies in different departments and agencies should be withheld from public access, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) announced.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — This list is intended to keep the US Congress, federal agencies as well as the general public informed of the existence of the reports. The list covers all such classified or controlled information reports since September 30, 2014.

"[The] products have been determined to contain either classified information or controlled unclassified information by the audited agencies and cannot be publicly released. As such, they have not been posted to GAO's website," the announcement stated on Monday.

The GAO explained that only members of Congress or congressional staff will be granted access to the reports on the list. A procedure to vet other requests for access has also been set up, it added.

The list includes at least 13 reports dealing with information on security and other three dealing with nuclear storage and security issues. Additional reports cover aviation security, Arctic planning, combatting terrorism and critical infrastructure protection, the GAO said.
