Defence officials told Politico on Monday that the Pentagon had authorised 750 active-duty troops to support security efforts ahead of US President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

Sputnik goes live from outside the US Capitol in Washington, DC on 19 January as final preparations for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden are taking place.

The inauguration will be held on 20 January and is expected to take place under increased security in the wake of the storming of the US Capitol building by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.
