GAZA, December 20 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli troops killed four Palestinian gunmen and injured at least three others in an incursion into central Gaza, local media reported on Thursday.
The operation began early in the morning when Israeli troops entered the Gaza town of Maghazi.
Al-Quds Palestinian Arab Radio said two of the gunmen killed in the operation were from al-Quds Brigades, an armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, one fighter was a member of the radical group Islamic Army, and the fourth was from Izz el-Din al-Qassam Brigades, a military wing of Islamist movement Hamas which has controlled the Gaza Strip since June.
The Israeli military has intensified operations in the Gaza Strip, killing 20 Palestinians this week in retaliation for continuous rocket and shell attacks launched from the enclave, home to 1.5 million.
