PARIS, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - France and Latvia have signed a strategic partnership agreement on energy cooperation, defense policy and international relations, French media reported.
The agreement signed by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and his Latvian counterpart Ivars Godmanis in Riga on Friday also includes issues relating to cooperation between the European Union and Russia.
The premier's visit to Latvia is part of President Nicolas Sarkozy's drive to strengthen France's relations with Central and Eastern European countries that have joined the EU in the past four years.
The agreement with Latvia also sets out plans for cooperation in the protection of children's rights, and in youth politics, French media said.
