Russia and Syria may open a ferry connection between a Syrian port of Latakkia and main Russian port of Novorossiisk on the Black Sea in order to ship cargos directly, Transportation Minister Igor Levitin said during the Russian-Syrian talks on Tuesday.
Discussing maritime communication issues with the Syrian side, Levitin said Russia and Syria should open a sea link to "transport cargos directly, avoiding transit through other countries."
The talks were held as part of the visit to Syria of President Dmitry Medvedev, who headed a delegation including the president of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and several government ministers.
