A suicide bomber has killed four and injured 23 people in an attack targeting a NATO convoy, an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
According to specified data, the suicide bomber riding a bicycle rammed into the NATO convoy in the fourth district of the Afghan capital. All the four people killed in the incident were civilians, Zemarai Bashary said, adding that two foreign servicemen were injured in the attack.
The attack occurred just two days before foreign ministers, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were expected to gather in Kabul for an international conference on the future of Afghanistan.
Violence has surged in Afghanistan in recent months, with the radical Islamic Taliban group, which was toppled in a 2001 U.S.-led campaign, staging regular attacks on provincial government officials, police and civilians and planting roadside bombs to target Afghan, U.S. and NATO troops.
