Switzerland has extended sanctions against the Syrian regime to President Bashar al-Assad’s mother and wife, Swiss media reported on Monday.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) said it had included in the sanctions list some key personalities close to the regime.
The sanctions will now apply to al-Assad’s wife Asma and mother Anisa, his sister Bushra and sister-in-law Manal, the wife of Assad's younger brother Maher, who heads the Republican Guard.
The Swiss sanctions include a freeze on assets and restrictions on travel to Switzerland.
The black list features 127 people and 40 businesses.
More than 9,000 people have been killed in Syria since the outbreak of a popular uprising against President Bashar al-Assad last March, according to the UN.
