Karim Masimov, who resigned as Kazakhstan's prime minister earlier on Monday, has been named to head the presidential administration, according to a decree published on the administration's website.
Earlier in the day President Nursultan Nazarbayev accepted Masimov's resignation.
A source in the nation's parliament told RIA Novosti that Deputy Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov has been nominated to replace Masimov. The appointment is subject to parliamentary confirmation.
Masimov, 47, had been Kazakhstan's prime minister since January 2007.
