MOSCOW, January 8 (RIA Novosti) – An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldier was shot dead in southern Afghanistan by a man in an Afghan National Army (ANA) uniform on Monday, the alliance said in a statement Tuesday.
While ISAF did not reveal the soldier’s nationality, the incident is the latest in a recent series of “insider attacks” against NATO forces by members of Afghanistan's security forces.
The alliance added that the "incident is currently under investigation."
More than 60 ISAF soldiers have been killed since the beginning of 2012 in such incidents, also known as “green-on-blue” attacks.
ISAF is a NATO-led mission that has been active in Afghanistan since late 2001, aimed at training Afghan security forces.
