Each country of the world must condemn the desecration of monuments for victims of the Holocaust and heroes of World War II, the Israeli Knesset said on Wednesday in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Israeli lawmakers believe that the efforts aimed at tackling the problem must be made both at the international and local levels.

“In recent times we are facing ever more cases of Holocaust denial, desecration of memorials and burial sites of the Holocaust’s victims and Red Army soldiers as well as denial of the Red Army’s role in the victory over fascism in various European countries. Each country of the world must voice a sharp condemnation of the desecration of memorials for the Holocaust’s victims and heroes of the World War II – soldiers of the Red Army, who liberated Europe from the fascism,” the statement said.

“Any attempts to glorify or revive the fascist regime must be stopped. Only when the young generation will be educated on the lessons of Holocaust and the World War II, we can be sure that the memory about those terrible events will be preserved,” the statement said.

According to Russia's State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, the statement was adopted in the wake of the decision of Polish President Andrzej Duda to sign into a law the bill on the prohibition of communist propaganda that regulates the demolition of Soviet-era monuments.

Russia's lower house of parliament adopted on Wednesday an appeal to European lawmakers urging them to unite efforts to counter any attempts to revive fascism in any of its manifestations, and also rigorously resist the destruction or desecration of monuments and memorials to the soldiers who liberated Europe from Nazism.
