TEHRAN, January 2 (RIA Novosti) - 61 countries expressed their readiness to participate in restoration of the ancient Silk Road city of Bam in southeastern Iran which in the Middle Ages used to connect Europe with Eastern Asian countries, a source in the Iranian Parliament disclosed.
The Iranian leadership calls on world non-government organizations to participate in the restoration as well.
The earthquake completely destroyed the city and killed, according to the preliminary data, 40,000 residents.
According to the data of the Iranian Information Agency IRNA, over 1,600 foreign rescuers from 30 countries, including Russia, participated in the rescue works in Iran.
