MOSCOW/CHISHINAU, January 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Staffers of the Russian Embassy in Moldova, in front of which yesterday was held an unsanctioned rally of the Moldavian radical opposition, are safe and secure. This was disclosed on Friday by the Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press.
On the very first day of the New Year 70 people from the Christian-Democratic Peoples party, which is known for its anti-Russian sentiments, held an unsanctioned action in front of the Russian Embassy in Moldova. In this connection Moldavian law-enforcement bodies launched a criminal investigation.
"In connection with the current events Russian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy keep close contact with Moldavian authorities," the Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press disclosed.
