GROZNY, January 4 (RIA Novosti) - A terrorist act was prevented near a checkpoint in Chechnya's Shali district, the republic's interior ministry reports.
"Yesterday, 250m from checkpoint-121 near Chiri-Yurt, Shali district, OMON (special purpose police detachment) officers conducted engineer reconnaissance of the terrain, discovered a makeshift explosive device in the bushes and destroyed it," a ministry source said.
In his words, the device was made of a 152mm artillery shell, electric detonator and wires.
The source said the device was planted with the aim to destroy vehicles at the section of the road near the checkpoint.
