CEC SPEAKS ON DISTRIBUTION OF FEDERAL FUNDS ALLOCATED FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

MOSCOW, January 8 (RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Makarov) - The Russian Central Election Commission looked at its Thursday session into how the federal budget funds allocated for holding presidential elections (due on March 14) are being spent.

Speaking at the session, CEC deputy head Oleg Velyashev said 4,296mln rubles were allocated out of the federal budget for holding elections of the Russian president (1 dollar is approx. 30 rubles). This sum, in his words, includes possible expenditures in case of a necessity to hold a second round of voting. 1.5bln rubles are envisaged for this.

Velyashev said 60% of the funds are allocated to pay for the labor of workers of election commissions of different levels, while 40% - to issue ballot papers, organize an early voting etc.

In the words of the Central Election Commission deputy chairman, in case the winner of the presidential elections is determined in the first round, means envisaged to hold a second round will be returned to the federal budget.
