MOSCOW, January 14th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Larisa Sayenko) - The Open Russia Foundation is ready to support co-chairman of the Union of Right Forces Irina Khakamada at the upcoming presidential elections slated for March 14th. Khakamada herself said this at a press conference.

"Leonid Nevzlin has openly stated his readiness to support Khakamada and make his contribution," Khakamada said about herself in the third person, confirming that her campaign was financed by Yukos. But she did not mention the size of the expected contribution.

Nevzlin is a major shareholder of the Yukos company, and currently is living in Israel.

Khakamada also said that the Kremlin did not support her.

When commenting on her self-nomination as a presidential candidate, Khakamada said she did not so much seek to oppose incumbent president Vladimir Putin but wanted to rally the democratic electorate. "I have not challenged the president and the Kremlin but appealed to the people: don't be give up, we can still be re-united," she said.
