In the wake of his meeting with LAS Secretary General Amr Moussa Alexander Saltanov stressed that both Russia and the Arabs saw the prospects for solution of the Iraqi issue in the soonest possible restoration of sovereignty of Iraq and its economic rehabilitation with the key role in this played by the UN and with active assistance from the international community.
Saltanov also noted that discussed at the talks at the LAS headquarters was the situation in the Middle East in general. The parties pointed out that despite all difficulties, efforts should be made for promoting a political process in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement based on the fulfillment by the parties to the conflict of the obligations stemming from the "road map".
According to the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, his talks in the LAS are held within the framework of the permanent dialogue on the basis of the protocol on cooperation signed between the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Arab League's general secretariat.
Mr.Saltanov has in his plans to hold consultations and exchange of opinions on the situation in the Middle East in the foreign ministry of Egypt.
