COMMANDER OF TERRORIST GROUP ELIMINATED IN CHECHNYA

GROZNY, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - Gang ringleader Abuvalid Astamirov, involved with killing 35 people and several terrorist acts, was eliminated in Urus-Martan district of Chechnya, the press service of the Regional Operational Headquarters reported.

According to the press-service, Astamirov was head of a bandit group, which was part of a larger terrorist formation commanded by Albek Bugayev. His body was discovered on the outskirts of the Tanga village after a special operation conducted by Federal troops.

"All in all, 15 people of Astamirov's bandit group were eliminated in the course of the operation. The gang was responsible for a number of terrorist acts and crimes connected with kidnappings and murders of citizens who were assisted to stabilize the situation in the republic," the press service disclosed.

Moreover, a camp of terrorists was discovered in the same area after the operation, where false IDs, other false documents as well as a list of 21 Chechen citizens contemplated to be murdered, were found.
