"Russia is interested in Georgia to be a stable, united and manageable by the central organs of power", he said. This is not yet so, he added.
"The policy line of the former leadership of President Eduard Shevardnadze with regard to Russia has not proved to be correct. Hopefully, the new leadership of Georgia understands that no Uncle Sam will undertake handling Georgia's problems without its losing part of its sovereignty", Konstantin Kosachev said.
As regards the Russian military bases in Georgia, he said: "This cannot be an annoying factor for Georgia from the military point of view. Much here has been brought from beyond. When a normal political dialogue between out states is arranged, this problem too, I'm sure, will be settled".
As to the upcoming visit by the United States State Secretary Colin Powell to Russia, Kosachev called it very timely. "It is a normal regular step in the development of our relations. We have amassed many questions to each other", Duma deputy Konstantin Kosachev said.
