MOSCOW, January 26, 2004. /RIA Novosti/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and US Secretary of State Colin Powell are to discuss security, defense and joint planning issues.

"I hope today we shall have an opportunity to discuss Russian-US relations in security and defense spheres, the use of our services and arms and joint planning," the Russian minister said at the meeting with the US Secretary of State.

According to the minister, the talks will focus on the issues discussed by the Russian and US Presidents in Camp David. "Most of these issues concern the Armed Forces," the minister added.

"It is my privilege to discuss joint planning and peaceful issues," Mr. Colin Powell noted.

In the beginning of the meeting Sergei Ivanov welcomes Colin Powell as "a cold war veteran". "I am happy to greet you in Russia again, in particular, as a cold war veteran. I belong to this category myself," Ivanov said.
